Dementia Carer

Training

Independent Carer Training at Launex™ gives private and self-employed carers a recognised, professional pathway that reflects the reality of the care they deliver.

A 9-week live-online dementia care training programme for independent carers ready to step into professional identity and specialist dementia understanding.

At Launex™, we believe dementia care deserves its own professional identity; one that recognises skill, knowledge, and emotional intelligence as equal parts of excellence.
The Launex™ Dementia Carer Specialist (LDCS) represents that identity.

A LDCS brings together advanced understanding, reflective practice, and compassionate leadership to deliver person-led care that truly changes lives with a direct impact on positive quality of life. They see the person, and every action, conversation, and decision flows from that principle.

Independent carers support thousands of people every day, often stepping into some of the most emotionally complex situations without the training, guidance, or recognition they deserve. Families rely on them, yet the system has never truly invested in the depth of knowledge needed to support someone living with dementia in a meaningful, life-enhancing way.

Dementia care is evolving. Families, communities, and professionals are aware — they need clarity, structure, and a shared professional language.
The LDCS model defines that standard. It strengthens the bridge between families and formal care, ensuring consistency, dignity, and trust across every stage of support. These developments align with the direction set by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for more personalised, skill-based dementia support and principles echo guidance from NICE on person-centred dementia support.

Independent carers have been excluded from the qualifications that would help them grow, not because they lacked talent or commitment, but because the system required things they could never access. Most regulated dementia courses demand agency employment, supervised practice, workplace assessments, and sign-off from a registered service. These conditions automatically shut out independent carers working in private homes, leaving them without a recognised pathway to deepen their skills or demonstrate their competence.

Launex changes that.
The LDCS pathway requires no agency contract, no workplace assessor and no external supervision. Carers are assessed through their understanding, insight, reflective practice and ability to apply what they learn — not their ability to tick off tasks under observation. It is a professional standard designed around real dementia work, not institutional requirements.

For years, the primary training available to carers has focused on tasks — washing, dressing, meals, medication and household routines. These skills are important, but they sit on the surface of what dementia care truly requires. Dementia changes how a person feels, responds, remembers, interprets the world, move through their day, and copes with moments of confusion, frustration, fear or loss. Without understanding these changes, dementia care becomes reactive instead of supportive, and routines replace relationships.

Independent carers know this better than anyone. Many find themselves responsible for complex emotional and behavioural situations that basic training simply did not prepare them for. Often labelled as “unskilled”, not because they lack ability, but because the regulated qualifications they need are inaccessible unless they work for an agency or care home. This leaves carers undervalued, families uncertain, and the quality of home-based dementia support inconsistent.

Through specialised courses, professional coaching, and training, Launex™ helps care individuals develop the competencies and confidence associated with LDCS practice.
Our programmes equip learners to decode meaning, interpret behaviour, communicate effectively, and provide informed, person-led care grounded in respect and empathy without reducing the person to their diagnosis.

Introducing the Launex™ Dementia Carer Specialist Pathway (LDCS)

The LDCS pathway is a structured, nine-week, live-online programme designed specifically for independent carers. Every session explores dementia from within — the brain changes that affect daily life, the emotional patterns that shape behaviour, the way memories shift, how routines collapse and reform, how frustration develops, and how distress communicates needs the person may no longer be able to express, or are expressing and is being misunderstood.

Rather than teaching carers to “manage behaviours,” the LDCS programme teaches carers to understand the person behind those behaviours. This includes recognising the triggers that influence reactions, the changes in perception that drive fear or withdrawal, the cognitive breakdown that affects judgment and communication, and the emotional memory that continues long after factual memory fades. Care becomes person-led and purposeful. Responses become calmer, safer and more effective. Quality of life improves not by accident, but through skilled, thoughtful action.

This pathway is delivered as a complete programme with live training. Partial enrolment, self-study or phase-only study options are not available, as full programme completion is required for certification.

What Sets LDCS Apart

LDCS is not a re-packaged version of standard training and it does not follow the task-based model that dominates the sector. It is the result of nearly two decades of direct dementia work, behavioural translation, family support, crisis navigation, emotional coaching, and the real-life application of neurological insight.

Independent carers who complete this pathway gain far more than information; they gain a new way of interpreting dementia and a new level of confidence in responding to it. They learn to anticipate challenges, reduce escalation, preserve identity and dignity, and work with carers in ways that build trust rather than tension. The training deepens intuition with structure, replaces uncertainty with clarity, and transforms care from “what needs to be done” into “what makes life better.”

Assessment

The LDCS pathway includes structured module assessments designed to ensure understanding and practical application of the material.
Assessments are reflective, and directly linked to the real-life dementia situations covered in the course.

Launex™ issues a Certificate of Completion for the LDCS pathway that include assessment.
Certificates are awarded once all required module assessments are submitted and demonstrate the learner’s understanding and their ability to translate the pathway principles into real-world care practice.

Every certificate is individually issued by LAUNEX LTD, includes a unique verification number, and reflects achievement in dementia understanding, person-led responding, and safe, supportive dementia practice.

A Professional Identity That Opens Doors

Carers who complete the pathway earn the professional designation of Launex™ Dementia Carer Specialist (LDCS) — a title that represents depth, understanding and a standard of professional conduct grounded in real expertise. This is not a an abstract label certificate. It is a recognised identity that communicates to families, agencies and care settings that the carer has been trained to a specialist level of dementia understanding.

For independent carers, LDCS provides the recognition they have been denied for years. It positions them for higher quality work, stronger earning potential, more secure placements and — if they choose — a smoother transition into agency or care-home roles where they can demonstrate a higher standard from day one. It becomes a professional identity that stands on its own — credible, respected, and built on principles that have been proven in real homes with real people over many years.

For some, LDCS becomes the first step into further opportunities: advanced roles, dementia leadership, Launex™ Development Trainer or the pathway towards becoming a Launex™ Dementia Coach.

Training That Fits Real Carers’ Lives

This programme is designed with independent carers in mind; Training Sessions take place online, once a week, focusing on the relevant course Phase. Carers can attend from the homes they work in, their own living rooms, or anywhere with a stable internet connection. The tools, reflective exercises and case-based discussions are all shaped around the realities of home-based dementia care, making the learning immediately relevant and practical.

The Future of Dementia Care Needs Skilled Independent Carers

The care system is changing, expectations are rising, and families are demanding more insight, more clarity, more humanity and more emotional safety for the people they love. Independent carers who understand dementia at a deeper level will be the ones shaping the future — not being left behind by it.

The LDCS pathway gives carers the knowledge, confidence and professional identity needed to provide exceptional dementia support. It allows them to step forward with expertise rather than hesitation, to elevate the care they deliver, and to finally be recognised for the specialist work they are capable of providing.

Independent carers deserve a pathway that honours the reality of their role.
This is that pathway.
